Bandhu Dunham

Born in 1959 in Dayton, Ohio, Bandhu Dunham is an internationally recognized glass artist, author, and educator. He began teaching himself lampworking in 1975 while still in high school. As an undergraduate at Princeton University, he studied informally with the university’s glassblower and later trained under master artists at Urban Glass, the Pilchuck Glass School, and the Penland School of Crafts.

Dunham specializes in lampworking, a flame-based technique that allows for immediate, precise shaping of glass. Using simple tools, he forms rods and tubes into intricate and expressive designs. He has developed several techniques unique to his practice, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved in flame-worked glass.

Influenced by natural forms and systems, his work balances technical precision with fluid movement and subtle wit. His pieces are held in collections around the world, and his Contemporary Lampworking series remains a foundational text in the field.

Dunham teaches regularly at institutions including the Corning Museum of Glass, Pilchuck Glass School, and Penland School of Crafts. He has also served as Visiting Foreign Instructor at Osaka University of Arts and presented at international conferences such as the Glass Art Society and the International Festival of Glass.

Dunham works out of his studio, Salusa Glassworks, in Prescott, Arizona.
