When we began our goblet exploration early in spring 2024, we focused less on the more difficult Venetian techniques and more on making goblets that were unique to us, to Eben in particular. When Eben and I (Jen) first met, he was still deep in a decades-long obsession with surfcasting. To Eben, the elver, or baby eel, and its migration from the sea upriver in the spring was an indicator of the beginning of the striped bass season. He had a side business, at one point, making rubber eel fishing lures. So the elver figures prominently in Eben's personal symbology. The elver in this goblet's stem sits atop a solid marble that connects it to the blown foot. The foot has a turned under edge, which makes allows it to be lightweight and delicate, yet also strong. The cup is a traditional pineapple-molded wine cup. This goblet was created on March 26, 2024. It measures 8 1/2" tall and 3 1/4" wide. It comes in a custom-made wooden box to help protect it when it is not in use or displayed.
